Three years ago on this day, I launched Gold Ink, writing “I am beyond excited to be sharing with you my new blog: Gold Ink at goldinkblog.com, a blog that uses writing to trailblaze social change. Proudly created from #Africa, its vision is to build a community that challenges thinking, expands awareness, and widens angles of view.” That premise remains the same— you and I make up a community of individuals with an itch for #socialchange.
And though I do not talk about it often, there is a woman riding the waves of life and also trying her best to manage Gold Ink. I have logged onto this account in times when I needed community, felt great joy in seeing you engage with my content, felt deep sadness when my own #mentalhealth or circumstances prevented me from taking care of Gold Ink the way I wanted to, felt frustration for not being able to keep up with the demands of online #contentcreation, felt shame that Gold Ink didn’t grow the way I expected it to, smiled when looking back at articles I wrote two years ago, and let myself be overtaken by anxiety when I hadn’t released a new article. It has been three years of living and trying, and Gold Ink has remained through it all. 208 social media posts, 15 articles, three domain names, and many more community members later, Gold Ink remains an unwavering object of comfort and a source of great pride to me.
To you, I hope it is a place for learning, for challenge, and for creating the world as it should be. Thank you for being here. It remains that this project ends and begins with you, so cheers to #community 🥂!
